The New Specialty Chemical Products Development Department based in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture has one of the most outstanding development capabilities in Japan in the fields of functional polymers used as materials for lithium ion batteries and detergents used in semiconductor manufacturing processes. The Life Science Research Laboratories, one of Wako's R&D departments in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, develops cutting-edge reagents of the life science fields.

We interviewed Director of the Life Science Research Laboratories, as well as the leaders of the two groups of the Cell Biology Research Center which conduct research and development on; 1) reagents for stem cells such as iPS cells and ES cells, and 2) reagents related to RNA/DNA and proteins.

What are ongoing projects by the Life Science Research Laboratories which has widely attracted attention both at home and abroad? We present "the latest information" of the laboratories.
